I still think this is a ridiculous, short sighted law. I get that we are all frustrated and tired of masking, but allowing opt outs during a local emergency is just a recipe for disaster.
I don't see any local emergency. Where is it?
I think it just passed today. I think it said - masks rules have to have an opt out, but governor can still declare an emergency and say we need masks for all.
we better hope that an actual health emergency doesn't happen with Youngkin as Governor, because we know full well that he will NEVER do an emergency mandate. NEVER
The good news is - there are vaccines and boosters and high quality one way masks if you're concerned. If we can't unmask now - we never can. What would change in the future? Not the advent of vaccines.
Declining cases would continue to decline, the weather will continue to improve and there will correspondingly be even less chance of you reinfecting your entire family with covid. But I know. You can't wait a month because that would be "forever" so you have to demask right now!!! For the children!! You failed the marshmallow test too, didn't you?
You lost that argument already when you claimed two weeks to slow the spread - you cry wolf and this is what happens. I agree if the Ds were more reasonable on unmasking - and if FCPS for example, updated their metrics since 2020 BEFORE vaccines- we might be in a better position. That's the whole thing. There is some middle ground being lost here - and that is the better approach. Unfortunately none of my middle of the road people are commenting here too much and leave me to the wolves, lol.
NP... Lost argument? NOPE. Try again. The problem is that we never did what we were supposed to in the first place, so the spread was never slowed down. Half the country didn't even bother to mask up in the first place, and half of those who did wear masks had their noses hanging out and every other stupid thing. And, only around a week or so in, y'all were marching on state Capitols armed with AR-15s demanding that you be allowed to go back to your crowded indoor happy hour at Hooters. The US never did any kind of meaningful lockdown, every attempt to try and reduce the spread was completely thwarted and undermined by idiots.
