I don't see any local emergency. Where is it?
I think it just passed today. I think it said - masks rules have to have an opt out, but governor can still declare an emergency and say we need masks for all.
we better hope that an actual health emergency doesn't happen with Youngkin as Governor, because we know full well that he will NEVER do an emergency mandate. NEVER
The good news is - there are vaccines and boosters and high quality one way masks if you're concerned. If we can't unmask now - we never can. What would change in the future? Not the advent of vaccines.
Declining cases would continue to decline, the weather will continue to improve and there will correspondingly be even less chance of you reinfecting your entire family with covid.
But I know. You can't wait a month because that would be "forever" so you have to demask right now!!! For the children!!
You failed the marshmallow test too, didn't you?
You lost that argument already when you claimed two weeks to slow the spread - you cry wolf and this is what happens. I agree if the Ds were more reasonable on unmasking - and if FCPS for example, updated their metrics since 2020 BEFORE vaccines- we might be in a better position. That's the whole thing. There is some middle ground being lost here - and that is the better approach. Unfortunately none of my middle of the road people are commenting here too much and leave me to the wolves, lol.

I’m disappointed that my local delegate and state senator voted against masks optional. I don’t even know if I am D anymore. Does it not matter because we don’t have to register by party? It’s like an identity crisis.
I pro choice and anti gun. So I feel like I have no political home anymore.
This seems like a strange thing to be a single-issue voter on.
If you are in favor of making masks optional instead of requiring a mask mandate, you philosophically have more in common with the freeloading anti-vax right wing assholes of the world, though. Mask use isn't about protecting yourself (which is the "optional" framework) it is about protecting others.
Personally, I think everyone who is clamoring for "mask optional" gets a surgeon who refuses to mask up if they ever need an option. I mean, as we know, it's hard to breathe in those things. So, obviously, you should tell the doctor to not wear a mask or she might not perform well.

The fact that removing masks in public schools will continue to let covid run unchecked throughout many poor communities who are already suffering from an information deficit about the virus thanks to scum like the dude who started this thread...
Well, that's a bonus for them.
Look at him, he's been refused to chanting slogans like the desperate little hamster he is. Stuck on his wheel and wailing.

I heard this last year when they started in person hybrid. Just wait a little longer! No. We've waited long enough.

I guess the ones who think the school boards are incompetent and are doing it all wrong. I think it's really terrible that the VA legislature thinks (rightly so) that we need a LAW to ensure in person school - but that's the state of reality with these school boards - we need such a law not one, but two years in a row now. And I'm willing to call the Ds out on it. It's BAD that you're are mishandling education in a pandemic so badly that they need this law.
I fully believe that APS would have gone virtual after New Years and not reopened for weeks if it weren't for the law requiring in person school... and that's nuts.
