They are offering to let ASFS kids transfer to Innovation if they live in the walk zone. This letter is to inform you that Arlington Public Schools (APS) is offering students who reside in one of the following planning units: 23211, 24080, 24100, 24111, 24120 and will be in Grades K-5 for the 2022-23 school year the option to apply for a targeted neighborhood transfer to Innovation Elementary School. This offer is being made for the 2022-23 school year because Innovation Elementary has space for additional students and the planning unit you reside in is in the bus eligibility zone for ASFS but walk zone to Innovation. Please note there is a limited number of transfer seats available at Innovation. If the number of applications exceeds the available seats, APS will conduct a lottery to determine admission. Students who do not receive a slot through the lottery will be placed on the waitlist. Once a student accepts an offer, they are removed from all other offers and waitlists including option schools/programs. Families of students who reside in one of the following planning units: 23211, 24080, 24100, 24111, 24120 and are currently in grades PreK-4 for the 2021-22 school year are eligible to apply for a targeted neighborhood transfer to Innovation. Families interested in applying for a targeted neighborhood transfer must apply online between February 21, 2022 - April 15, 2022 at 4 p.m. The following applies for the targeted neighborhood transfer students: Will not be provided as students in these planning units are in the walk zone for Innovation; Families do not need to reapply to stay at the school each year; Students will be able to remain through Grade 5 and would then matriculate to their assigned neighborhood middle school (based on address); Students may return to their neighborhood school at any time; and Siblings will be admitted together for elementary targeted neighborhood transfers.
I just heard about this too. I wonder if people will want to transfer. It’s a shame the school is so under capacity right now.
Some will, especially in the units right across Wilson/Clarendon Blvd in Courthouse. I think the targeted transfer approach is a good idea.
