California, Ft Reno (DC), and Chevy Chase cases are all in the 20th century and the local government kicking people off their property without fair market compensation. Like, people alive TODAY had their grandparents kicked off those properties. This is very recent history with a short family tree of heirs. People bringing up slavery from the mid 1800s are just trying to distract from the issue.
taking houses with title that has been clear for decades and returning it would be beyond dubious constitutionally
It wouldn't be houses. Specifically with regard to Belmont, you could return the land the Saks is on to the heirs of the investors who were harassed and arrested out, from the heirs of the people who perpetrated it.
