It’s eye-opening as to the way Shipley (like other perpetrators) used his position as a teacher and coach to groom these girls for extensive periods of time prior to starting the abuse. It’s also eye-opening about how social media was used - snap chat and texts and g chat. Reading that made me glad i still monitor my kids phone even though they are in HS. It’s also time for school and sports to have more explicit rules around conduct - door open policies, no one on one contact, no contact between teachers and students outside of monitored email or group chats, no private texting, no private car rides, no commenting on body or touching of any kind, etc. Plus explicit methods of reporting abuse. Many outside kids groups have these rules - why not MCPS and coaching? [/quote]
