We stopped by a Sweet Frog today and were prompted to tip on their payment machine. The choices were 15%, 20%, and other. So what should I tip for self-serve ice cream?
I kind of hate stuff like this. On the one hand, I don't want to be cheap, but on the other, what is this all about? Why am I paying a tip when somebody is doing the exact same thing they would be doing if it was a 7-11 or something? In situations like this I usually tip the smallest suggested amount because it's just a matter of a few dollars (if it's a really big order I do "other" and say 5 dollars) but I don't think there is any coherent theory on tipping etiquette that would require a 15% tip on self-serve ice cream. I really just wish everybody would just charge more and raise the wage of service workers and do away with tipping.
