Not a merger but a partnership.  McLean gets access to MLSNext for boys and SYC gets ECNL access for girls.  Seems pretty simple.  Does anyone have any other details?[/quote]

Maybe something where they send their top players to train with the teams from those leagues and that they could also guest play?  Each club retains their players to play in their own leagues as well.  As an example, McLean would send their top 08 boy to train a few times per week with SYC and guest play in games while also being able to retain him to play in ECNL.  [/quote]

In this example is it presuming that mls next is the better players?  If so, we’re saying a kid who would otherwise make one of those teams stays home with McLean but can play over to satisfy better training?  Why wouldn’t the player just make the move for more consistent training?  Maybe a mid level kid not quite ready for a better combined team does that by getting pushed in an extra practice, but I imagine that’s only a handful of kids.  [/quote]

Maybe because the clubs aren't next door to each other a player may not want to fully commit to a new club, maybe they like their current team but would benefit from higher level commitment in MLS/ECNL.  For the club it may work where they don't lose a top player and at the same time offer more training/games.  I think it probably best benefits the clubs by being able to retain their players while also dangling the carrot at the end of the stick.  Pure speculation on my part though.[/quote]
