Well if that's your priority, West is one of the only elementary schools in DCPS that has a Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) program, which is the District's equivalent to an open G&T program. No idea how it works in practice, but it's there.
You mean the SEM program just like the one at Brookland middle? You are so naive if you actually think it’s going to be like a rigorous G & T program. Labels mean nothing and it’s all for show especially in DCPS. Get back to us when your kids is there in upper elementary.
PP here. We're not at West and won't ever be, so I've got zero dog in this fight. I do think similar programs are implemented very inconsistently across DCPS, so it's worth getting more information instead of making assumptions (reasonable and/or likely as they may be). Schools in that neighborhood are interesting. Unappealing feeder patterns, but expensive single family housing that attracts UMC families. So you have West, Powell, Whittier that have strong "cohorts" and enough parents that can afford private for a few years, so don't stress quite so much about feeder patterns. I wasn't wowed by the West open house a few years ago, but plenty of people like it there.
