I don’t think that’s right. Some of these schools took big enrollment hits this year. More kids in these neighborhoods will head to privates next year if in person is looking at all iffy. No seats will be offered in the lottery, but I’d virtually bet on WL movement at a few of those schools.
My child is at Murch in 3rd this year. We have had 2 students leave. You will not get in OOB at Murch next year. Guaranteed. Not sure about the other schools.

Not swami, but I’m guessing you will get into sela and at some point get off the waitlist at MV8. You will love sela but end up going to MV, which will be a bad decision in the long run assuming they have the same problems as MV cook.
I don’t presume to know what’s going on. MV P is a shit show. I’m not sure why people expect MV8 to not have similar problems

That’s your problem is you have no idea what is going on at the school and what is same or different for each campus, different principals at each, different family retention and engagement at each, different teachers at each, etc...
But carry on because this is DCUM. The smart people in the lottery actually talk to the families at the school and have factual based information.

PP here. We're not at West and won't ever be, so I've got zero dog in this fight. I do think similar programs are implemented very inconsistently across DCPS, so it's worth getting more information instead of making assumptions (reasonable and/or likely as they may be). Schools in that neighborhood are interesting. Unappealing feeder patterns, but expensive single family housing that attracts UMC families. So you have West, Powell, Whittier that have strong "cohorts" and enough parents that can afford private for a few years, so don't stress quite so much about feeder patterns. I wasn't wowed by the West open house a few years ago, but plenty of people like it there.

NP. I could care less about facilities. What I care about is academics and peer groups. Look at the millions and millions spent on renovating poorly performing DCPS schools that are stilled under enrolled.

The school is being renovated now, I think to be complete for next school year. I don't think it's particularly well known outside of the neighborhood, but it's pretty well liked among people I know.
