Thought I'd circle back since numbers dropped so severely in the last month. Mask wearing went up significantly on the trail after July 4th and went well above 70% on the trail during the fall and even higher as it colder. Today, in beautiful weather, mask usage on the CT was below 70% (64%) for the first time in 4 months.
Good, hopefully by the summer we can ditch this masks on the trail BS.
Ditch it now. Normalize unmasking outside, people - there is zero need. Especially for a fleeting pass. The fact that anyone thinks covid numbers are even slightly, marginally, itsy-bitsy teeny tiny mildy connected to outside passes... is seriously mind boggling.
But it's not just a fleeting pass. That only applies to people going the other direction. You may be behind someone for a while on the same side, or vice versa.
PLus it's cumulative- all these itsy-bitsy passes add up to a lot of small exposures, and theoretically higher viral load depending how many positive people you pass.
Unless you are severely (and I mean SEVERELY immunocompromised) it would be nearly impossible to get covid this way. Mask outdoors is unnecessary as long as you move. Now, when people start having picnics and hanging out, that is different.
