This is down from a headcount over the last 2 weeks of just over 25%. Weekday use of masks is less than 20%.
Today, there was one group of family bikers of 10 all wearing masks. Otherwise, the % would have been much lower today,
Great Falls (MD side) on Weds. >95% of people we passed on the canal and walk out to Olmstead Island.

Mask wearing went up significantly on the trail after July 4th and went well above 70% on the trail during the fall and even higher as it colder.
Today, in beautiful weather, mask usage on the CT was below 70% (64%) for the first time in 4 months.
Good, hopefully by the summer we can ditch this masks on the trail BS.
Ditch it now. Normalize unmasking outside, people - there is zero need. Especially for a fleeting pass.
The fact that anyone thinks covid numbers are even slightly, marginally, itsy-bitsy teeny tiny mildy connected to outside passes... is seriously mind boggling.
But it's not just a fleeting pass. That only applies to people going the other direction. You may be behind someone for a while on the same side, or vice versa.
PLus it's cumulative- all these itsy-bitsy passes add up to a lot of small exposures, and theoretically higher viral load depending how many positive people you pass.
I feel like I'm living in a completely different universe than people like pp/you. I am baffled how people think like this. Going for a walk outside and passing a person, cracking a smile to acknowledge them is not like your step counter adding up a few steps here and a few steps there until you reach a special number. And then it resets at midnight or something.
You are literally surrounded by air circulation and ventilation and so much air.
So.
Much.
Air.
I see some people wearing a double mask outside (and not to/from a store or something) and it's just mind boggling. The outside air is safe. Passing people in a brief pass maskless is fine. Just... try it. The only way to conquer your fears is to just take that step and do it. Really... it is ok.

18 masks on
126 no masks
12.5% usage
Way down from prior weekends' usage. Essentially, an older couple walking together or a stray biker. That's it and that's different from weekends prior.
You probably narc’d on the kids who back in HS skipped class on Friday afternoons, didn’t you? You do you...
There is no "you do you" during a pandemic, you imbecile. Your selfish actions affect the whole.
And skipping class isn't a highly-transmissible breathborne respiratory illness in which we're currently in a pandemic (and P.S. neither are car accidents or cancer), but you already knew that.

WEAR YOUR MASK WITHIN 6 FEET OF PEOPLE.
This means you should always take your mask with you when you leave the house.
You should wear them if the area is so crowded that people get within 6 feet of you repeatedly. But don't constantly whip your mask on and off, because that's also a contamination risk. You need to look around and use good judgement.
And what are you going to do about it when I don’t?
