From an academic standpoint this could be fun. What are the laws regarding secession? I honestly don’t know and was intrigued when people in California and other states were talking about this in 2016/17. Can it be done in a legal peaceful fashion? What’s the mechanism? Could a state hold a referendum and simply declare themselves sovereign? Let’s allow this to play out!
+1 - I'd actually like to see/read a few pieces on this. Texas has its own electrical grid and relatively little in the way of federal lands. And sure, petroleum is in decline, but the big petroleum companies (and even some not so big) are doing fine and know they have to change with the times. The greater Austin area is already a tech hub. I don't think Texas will actually leave the union, but I'd like to read about it nonetheless.
