This guy lost me.
What would you propose he do? The two primary sources of COVID cases are: 1. In-home gatherings, which the government can’t stop. 2. High-capacity indoor dining and bars, which he’s taken measures to avoid.
Those measures are ineffective and have been for a while.
So then what would you do? Why are you criticizing Hogan when you have no alternatives?
There are plenty of other options. Look at how other countries are dealing with their pandemic. Some are requiring paperwork for people who go out, to explain why they need to leave the house, and fining people who don't fit into the allowed categories and are found beyond the stated geographic limit from their workplace or home. Some are in strict lockdown. Some have closed most businesses but kept schools open. Plenty of options... Hogan is just tweaking his earlier plans and not branching out.
The only thing you mentioned that’s constitutional is closing businesses but keeping schools open. It is not constitutional in this country to require people to tell the government where they’re going, or fining people for being beyond a certain limit from their home. Moreover, that’s not even effective, given that most COVID cases are happening via in-home gatherings, which you could do while staying on your own block.
Such measures were radically effective in France and Italy. The problem is that as soon as they’re lifted, people go back to greeting each other with kisses on the cheek, as it’s the traditional greeting over there... so now France is in its second lockdown. It will be effective, but as soon as it’s lifted...
