OP is right. You can't have arbitrary speed limits. If 50 mph is too slow, then the gov't needs to change the limit, not punish citizens for obeying it.
Agreed.
I do think OP should be mindful that if the general rate of speed in the left lane is faster than the speed limit, she should be driving in the right lane. And, keep an eye on who is behind you so you aren't holding up traffic! That said -- people should also follow the speed limit and shouldn't be lectured by a cop for driving the speed limit. I was pulled over by a cop once for driving the speed limit -- it was in CA on a windy mountain road I normally had to travel on my commute to work. I knew accidents on the road were common so I was careful to drive the speed limit. There was no passing lane, just one lane with very occasional shoulders to pull over. One day I am followed by a cop and made to pull over once a shoulder is available and given a warning that I needed to drive faster because I was holding up traffic!! I didn't argue with him (I know better than to get into an argument with a cop) but I have never understood why that happened. In future, I increased speed a little and tried to be aware of traffic building up behind me but, really, think the cop should have spent his time pulling over the people who were driving on that road too fast rather than wasting the time of someone trying to make the road safer.
