Closing now would be premature.
Closing now slows down the spread and protects families. This IS the time to close while most community infections are symptomatic. It’s too late once people start dying.
We are a two teacher household. We both think there is no need to close the schools. Wash your hands and keep on keeping on.
Different two teacher household and we both think a close of 3 to 4 weeks is a prudent idea.
There... science talking. Thank you.
I’m not sure whether schools should close or not - and none of you know either. I posted on the other thread that we absolutely need more widespread testing to get a handle on the problem. Keep on keeping on could result in a massive collapse of an overburdened health care system. The idea with closures is to slooooow things down so as not to overwhelm the system - Flattening the curve is how it is referred to. It doesn’t mean the illness disappears, just that the transmission rate slows. That allows for our health care system to get more up to speed, possibly for finding that certain existing drugs can impact disease progression, keep hospital beds and ventilators available for those who need them.
