My child is an 8th grader in a DCC middle school. None of her friends had any interest in this program. They were interested in CAP, Wheaton programs, etc. They can get the IB program at Einstein and go to high school with many of their friends. They know that Kennedy is the weakest school in the DCC.
Clarification. Einstein's IB does not have a test-in cohort, nor a middle years programme.
True. But there are pre-IB classes in 9th and 10th. And it's not test in but good enough to go to the local school rather than Kennedy.
Not sure that’s actually the case, as Kennedy is becoming the DCC version of RMIB. That’s how the county explained it. Einstein is not.
I’m not sure what you mean. But I agree with poster who said that Kennedy would have to be as good overall as Einstein to justify going there for the IB program over staying at Einstein for IB.
Einstein is our home school. I know lots of families who opted for Einstein for the IB program rather than apply to Kennedy. Staying with your friends and families you know, having established sports and fine arts programs, these are all reasons to do IB at Einstein. We know kids who went to Eastern and Takoma magnets who decided not to apply to any programs and do IB at Einstein instead. DC is choosing between Blair magnet, CAP and Einstein IB right now. We personally know the cohort there and would support Them if they turned down the Blair programs to do IB at Einstein. (Go ahead and start the flame throwing!)
I agree. It is hard for me to see the appeal of Kennedy if your home school is Einstein. I have a kid in CAP and think highly of the program and school for that particular kid but Einstein is a better choice for my other child who has no interest in Kennedy.
