The media has come to understand that mass shooters are partly motivated by their desire to go out in a blaze of glory. The notoriety of these killers has propelled others to follow in their footsteps. News outlets have made a decision to deny them that notoriety. That's why news coverage of more recent mass shootings has focused on victims and avoided showing the killers' names and faces over and over. Smart decision by the media.[/quote]
