My DD is a 2008, so I'm interested in seeing what grouping adjustments the league makes for the 2008s in the spring … if any.  I fully realize that true promotion/relegation isn't supposed to happen until U13 (for girls, … U12 Spring for boys, I believe).  If anything, I'll have some historical data to consider a year or three from now.

Given that some clubs have multiple NCSL teams in this age group, it could be (and has been) argued that some informal tiering had already taken place for the fall, where C > G > P > Y.

Here are some things I found mildly interesting, mostly based on the latest YSR scores (as of today):

There was one Olney B&G team that was in the bottom Y division that could have easily been placed in one of the two top divisions for the fall.  I think my DD's coach was already aware that the team was much better than their bottom-division placement.

Great Falls-Reston actually had an entire team classified as 2009 that played up a year with the 2008s.  They too were in the bottom Y division, but had 72 GF and only 3 GA over 9 games.  This GFR team lost one game (to the aforementioned Olney team) with a 1-0 score.  GFR had beaten the Olney team 9-1 earlier in the season (Olney's only loss).

If you restacked the divisions based solely on NCSL-derived YSR scores, the top C division would have six teams from the second G division, one team from the third P division, while keeping three 'original' C division teams.  The second G division would feature three C, three P, and the remaining G teams.  Four C teams would fall to the third P division.  CAUTION:  The Y division teams don't have YSR scores only based on NCSL results.  I suspect they'd make the top division, pushing some other teams down.

If you restacked the divisions based on their "other"/non-NCSL-derived YSR scores, the top C division would keep 5 'original' C teams, adding three second G division teams, and the 2009 GFR and Olney teams already mentioned.  One bottom Y division team would climb to the second G division. Tow C and two G division teams would fall to the two bottom divisions. There are only two teams out of the 35 that don't have YSR scores at all.  Perhaps they'll stay in the bottom Y division, where they were placed for the fall.

I'll re-check the numbers once YSR merges all results.  If anyone really wants to see the numbers, perhaps I could post them somewhere, like Google Docs.

I have always heard that NCSL does not rank the divisions until U13. Notice how at U13+ the ranking go 1, 2, 3, 4 and prior ages it's all letters? And the letters are not in alphabetical order on purpose. And across ages and genders the letters are not consistent. For example T is listed first for girls U12 but 6th for Boys U11. That's all on purpose so that you know they are not ranked divisions.

Why else would they do that if the younger divisions are ranked? They would just do 1, 2, 3, 4 as they do at U13+
