Also, do you know something that a lot of people seem to miss in this conversation? It's a great time to be an American trying to go pro overseas right now, because clubs don't have to make any compensation payments. Christian Pulisic, Tim Weah, Weston McKinnie, and all the other guys who are making names for themselves in pro leagues overseas are significantly more desirable than European counterparts of the same talent level because the clubs can get them for much less while paying the players a good amount. There are a lot of other reasons why the compensation payments (which are never for the benefit of the player, BTW) don't make much sense for clubs here, including the fact that the parents, not the clubs, are paying for most of the kids' development.
