And, I mention gardening because that is more popular with older women. Most 60+ year old women were discouraged from a lot of outdoor physical activity when younger, as it was still considered a "guy thing." Older women garden instead, that was "acceptable" outdoor stuff back on the day, and fun / rewarding too.
You're hilarious. I'm 56 year old woman and "back in the day", I was encouraged to try rock climbing, play ice hockey, and run cross country. 60 year olds grew up in the 70's, FFS.
Title IX was only passed in 1972. I'm only 56 and it was still considered "not ladylike" to participate in many sports , especially contact ones. My high school had an ice hockey team, that women did not play on, regardless of the law. So you, pp are the hilarious one. Stop re-writing history. In high school, in order to have "girls" (yes, that's what we were called) fence, we had to get a "girl's team" together. We practiced against each other and only competed against other women. In high school I was also on the Junior varsity basketball team & we got the left -over boys' uniforms, boys got new ones, no girls were ALLOWED to play on the boys' team, because there was a female team. I was also on the cross-country team, Sophomore through Senior year & again females only competed against females. There was no way in 1979 that any high schools in New York had a co-ed ice hockey team, so I highly doubt they existed anywhere else in US. And in middle class neighborhoods, boys (and men) did "outside" work and women "inside work". No woman would be caught dead cutting the grass, trimming bushes etc. if she had a husband or money to pay someone. TOTALLY DIFFERENT NOW To the OP- As a widowed woman, you are more likely to meet me or another age-appropriate traditional-type woman in in a class/ library/ meet up group/Starbucks/Panera/painting class at a local bar event or maybe a hiking club or at a dog park. There would be less of a probability that a 50+ traditional woman would be at a rock-climbing wall or more extreme sporting event. And a traditional woman is NOT going to sleep with you the first few dates.
