Colleges absolutely practice AA for poor kids. And signs that a kid is from a disadvantaged background are all over the application--where you live, what school you go to, whether your parents went to college, what their occupations are, the financial aid application if the school is not need-blind (and only a handful of schools are need blind), the recommendation where teachers will say explicitly, "this is a kid who has succeeded despite a lot of disadvantages." The reason more of these kids don't go to college, or to top colleges, is that [i]many of them don't apply.[/i] Do we have to have this same tired conversation every 2 weeks?[/quote]
