The rankings mean nothing to me. We have all seen and heard what a mess Churchill is. If a school with an ineffective, disconnected principal, where Xanax is being sold in the bathrooms, with rich white kids who feel the pressure of their self absorbed elitist parents, where racist and vulgar remarks are spray painted on the walls, and have stabbings in the school ranks #1 for schools, there is a huge disconnect between what I value and what this ranking means.
Wow, that sounds like someone who is really disgruntled that the competition won. Luckily, the people who are in college admissions will not know from any of the complaints you have lodged, but instead will know that the children who went there were immersed in the most competitive high school environment in the state of Maryland. And that is what will matter in the end. It would have been nice to hear a "congratulations" from those who aren't at Churchill but it sounds like the rivalry runs very deep. I cannot imagine being so bitter if my school hadn't ranked.
I don't think it is so much about being bitter than it is about being realistic. Churchill is a fine school, but one must not overlook the issues the school and their student body face. Churchill has significant problems with drugs, suicide, and entitlement. As someone who is quite familiar with Potomac, it is not a place I would want to raise children-even with their high ranking schools. The level of phony, entitled, holier than thou snobs that plague that area is sickening. It is bad in Bethesda too, but not quite as bad. I would choose any other "W" school over Churchill, and some of the other non W schools as well.
It is as bad in Bethesda, if not more, than in Potomac. Whitman folks are more snobbier than Churchill folks. I could not care less for either of them
There is a ton of wealth in the Whitman area, obviously, however, there are some neighborhoods that while wealthy, are much more down to earth. Glen Echo, Wood Acres, Bannockburn seem to be much less snooty than any part of Potomac. Even the folks in the Richard Montgomery section of Potomac are snots.
