What's your preferred style? A well designed house has good flow, is made out of the best or most sensible materials you can get, and isn't a pastiche of styles with random crap thrown in. I would add that the well designed house doesn't have useless features like two story living rooms or esxcessive square feet, but that's me. 3,000-4,000 and up always seem so.... unnecessary.
