I very clearly stated that the Epstein case is disgusting because it is TRAFFICKING of human beings, which is disgusting at any age but particularly when the victims are young and vulnerable for any number of reasons.

Nevertheless, it is NOT pedophilia for 18+ year old men and women to be sexually attracted to 14-19 year old boys and girls. Those who argue that it is have a beef with basic biology and also with the entire psychological/psychiatric professional globally.

Much of our advertising and entertainment industry utilizes later teenage bodies to sell products and media, and tens of millions of Americans feel sexual feelings looking at those younger but sexually mature bodies. Again, we are primates and these are basic biological urges. It is not warped or sick to be attracted to a sexually mature human being.

And again as I already said, acting on that attraction is a different thing. If there is love and nurture in a real relationship involved, it isn’t always a horrible thing.

They didn’t marry until she was 20 and I’m sure they didn’t have physical relations until she was late teens, but I have little doubt he sexually admired her 15, 16, 17 year old body. He also loved her dearly and they had by all accounts a wonderful marriage into which they brought multiple children. Was he a sick twisted pedophile?

I’d love nothing more than to see every last person who assisted Epstein in his trafficking scheme be held accountable, including bankers who helped him launder money etc. At very least these people should be outed and ostracized, because it’s likely for many of the crimes the SOL has run.

I understand what pp is saying. Precision of language matters. Know what terms mean if you’re going to use them. Epstein and friends engaged in trafficking, rape, coercion. They are vile, disgusting people who committed crimes and traumatised who know how many vulnerable teenagers. It doesn’t have to be ‘Pedophilia” to be disgusting. What they did was disgusting and criminal on its own terms. You don’t have to throw a term around that doesn’t actually apply to somehow make it criminal.[/quote]

I’d be interested to know what profession, because no mental health professional of any merit would call it pedophilia - it’s simply not, does not meet the definition in the DSM.

And legal and law enforcement and medical professionals are trained to the same standards as the mental health professionals.

The general public can make a distinction between a 19 and 15 year old sexual liaison versus a 40 and 15 year old child exploitation involvement. I think it is state dependent, and most if not all, have a two-year difference. For instance, a sixteen-eighteen year old relationship would not be subject to criminal prosecution. [/quote]
