I find it interesting when people look at POY that they hone in on only two key stat lines. 1) did the player score o ton of goals? 2) did the player have about a 60% save rate Are these the only two factors that you look at when looking for a POY? I am not criticizing and I’m not saying these players aren’t worth it and I’m not saying that these two factors aren’t important. Are there any other factors that would make a player stand out? Asking for a Robinson parent
I think people would probably consider assists and maybe draw win%, but unfortunately lacrosse hasn’t really entered the world of advanced stats yet
Most rational people would also include (wait for it) - playing more than 2 games... Table this debate until at least halfway through season, otherwise it's meaningless... just list out every good player at every position for every team... Kevin McGonigle for AL MVP.
As you may know some of the most competitive games have already been played this season so it is never too early! Not to say that teams won’t get better come May and June. If you have been around HS lax in this area there are a few front runners every season. My list.. Madison senior attacker BF goalie (#11 a close 2nd) Robinson senior middy Not sure of anyone else that is POY material at this point in the season. I will not be surprised if one of the 3 is our state POY this season. All 3 have proved themselves so far and are the leaders of their teams. A lot of this also depends on the outcomes for their teams. Almost every year the POY (district, region, state) all come from the strongest teams. Have been following lax in the area for a long time and don’t recall a freshman getting POY. I also don’t see the list getting much bigger. Just my opinion!
I agree with this. Front runners and looks like the best 3 teams right now and they're top players. I look forward to the dark horse team that surprises, takes their district and make some noise. There will also be players that take that leap to the next level.
