1) did the player score o ton of goals?
2) did the player have about a 60% save rate
Are these the only two factors that you look at when looking for a POY?
I am not criticizing and I’m not saying these players aren’t worth it and I’m not saying that these two factors aren’t important. Are there any other factors that would make a player stand out?
Asking for a Robinson parent
I think people would probably consider assists and maybe draw win%, but unfortunately lacrosse hasn’t really entered the world of advanced stats yet
Most rational people would also include (wait for it) - playing more than 2 games... Table this debate until at least halfway through season, otherwise it's meaningless... just list out every good player at every position for every team...
Kevin McGonigle for AL MVP.
As you may know some of the most competitive games have already been played this season so it is never too early! Not to say that teams won’t get better come May and June. If you have been around HS lax in this area there are a few front runners every season.
My list..
Madison senior attacker
BF goalie (#11 a close 2nd)
Robinson senior middy
Not sure of anyone else that is POY material at this point in the season. I will not be surprised if one of the 3 is our state POY this season. All 3 have proved themselves so far and are the leaders of their teams.
A lot of this also depends on the outcomes for their teams. Almost every year the POY (district, region, state) all come from the strongest teams. Have been following lax in the area for a long time and don’t recall a freshman getting POY. I also don’t see the list getting much bigger. Just my opinion!

Uh huh, sure #11 BF dad, nice diversion, but we'll take your word for it. LOL Solid player tho, and added to the watch list. Is it me or are the BF parents really pumping up the whole team to be considered for POY? haha For their sake, I hope they win it all, cuz if not, implosion might be in the works.

Two Madison attack worth keeping an eye on if you're starting this early, a senior who has been great for her whole HS career, but also a freshman who had six goals this week vs. Robinson, including OT game winner, and I think leads the team in points. They are both a lot of fun to watch play.
For transparency, from a Madison parent but not of either of these two.
Good game, don't take as a slight, but another that needs a few years to develop. IMHO you do these freshmen girls a disservice by prematurely comparing to your senior. The senior is clearly levels above in technique, IQ, and athleticsm. But we get why you're trying to insert their name, fyi her chute is not til next yr. Suggest create a highlight film too.
Disservice how? Because she is going to have to carry the unbearable weight of expectation of a handful of anonymous mom bloggers?
By your response and sarcasm, it's easy to tell you're not part of the top clubs in the region but let me try and help anyway. If you were, they'd advise you to hold off on trying to start the recruiting chute too early for your child and rather focus on her game and academics. Coaches (including this forum that have coaches and scouts taking a peek) have very limited resources and time, so you want to maximize the time and exposure when they're actually looking at your child. If you do it too early, it can have a negative effect, whether or not they look at her again. In this instance, you're trying to elevate a '29 to a known and established '26. Not a fair comparison. It was easy to look at the game and see the difference. I'm actually a Madison fan and rooting for them to beat BF. LOL I think they have the strongest '29 class, but the two who were brought up are not ready. I can argue that the other '29 is a better prospect, but all are not ready, which is a good thing. Let them mature, their time will come. Best of luck to you...take it or leave it, don't matter to me!

Must be nice to have 2 great goalies when most schools don't even have 1 good one.
Freshman made some great saves. We are blessed.
Second goalie didn't even make it into the game against Madison, they must not be that close.

I want to agree with you, but I have never heard my daughter use the word rockstar or capitalize words in a sentence. That is a parent for sure.
