A poster or posters has been taking entirely too much pleasure in labeling one of these children a "thug". I am not sure what it is about that word that some are so excited about the chance to use it. But, I am sorry to deprive these folks of the joy they've been experiencing, but I've removed post from the last couple of pages that used the term, as well as posts that quoted those posts. I will continue to delete such posts so please save me the trouble and simply avoid using it.
NP - Use your vocabulary Jeff... the definition is an accurate description of the person who behaves in this way.
It's not my vocabulary that is the issue. But rather the vocabulary of you folks who seem to get stuck on one word.
What term is acceptable to describe a person who brings a weapon out at night, hunts down a defenseless kid and kicks them in the head nearly to a coma? What word would you like to use?
There are plenty of options. Assailant, aggressor, the individual charged as an adult in this incident, one of the students alleged to have attacked other students, the sole student arrested who has been identified, one of the attackers, I could go on and on.
None of those words convey the emotion that parents feel after that incident. It has nothing to do with racism. It has to do with the rage parents feel watching the safe neighborhood we moved to turn into an unsafe place where your children can't go meet up with their friends. You'll notice people were no where near as upset about the qo fight that was posted. Why? Because throwing punches in a school hallway isn't something new. The emotion behind the Bethesda incident is because it was an abhorrent, cruel act outside the bounds of what is expected for our teens to deal with. I'm haunted by the story of a group of teen/young adults in Canada who kicked a kid in the head like that outside a night club. They kicked his teeth out of head and killed him. Calling them "assailants" doesn't cover it. It was an animalistic, disgusting act of brutality.
What’s the problem?
