TJ is a mess these days. https://asrainvestigates.substack.com/p/1-hs-math-teachers-note-lowering?s=r&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
This article slaps the school board in the face. Those board members should resign.
Ummm . . . you do realize TJ Math 4 students are not those in the controversial class of 2025, right? So this article is crapping on students admitted under the old process. So, if anything, this article seems to suggest that the people saying kids that are artificially prepped for an entrance exam and then flame out when around truly gifted, non-prepped kids may be on to something.
My understanding is that the Math 4 students may be a mix of students from different classes, including the Class of 2025. But whether they are or are largely misses the point, which is that TJ has to be under a lot of stress for a group of Math 4 teachers to send out an email blast to the kids in that class that says - at the end of the school year - that the kids had poor study habits, weren't holding up their end of the TJ bargain, and performed worse than any TJ class in recent memory. It seems like earlier intervention should have taken place. But it didn't, in part because people were apparently so focused on blasting out positive PR about the admissions changes. Whether you like it or not, this school is in trouble. Entire departments at other high schools aren't sending out emails telling kids to repeat courses, reconsider their commitment to their school, etc.
How are Math 4 teachers involved in or distracted by the TJ admissions process? Too busy trashing low-income kids on DCUM?
It's nothing about income. Low income families also have capable kids. We should forget about income and race. Academic merit should be the only standard.
