Beth Moore always had the grift on. I noticed it when she was charging church ladies 10+ years ago to “stream” her sermons in churches. So everyone would pay for a ticket to watch a livestream. These others are just following in her footsteps. With different angles.
Anyone who thrives for decades in the Southern Baptist Convention is likely not a good person and at best lacks a lot of self awareness. I have a couple close friends who were seriously abused in that world. I’m empathetic to Beth’s childhood trauma but girl….the SBCs corruption was well known to every person inside and are the fakest people you can imagine from top down. Other people - especially women - got kicked out and abused for speaking up and chose against opportunities out of integrity while Beth continually looked the other way and never said anything until a couple years ago after so much damage has been done. She let other people take the abuse by having integrity and she only left when the SBC wasn’t good supply for her anymore and for the optics. Beth Moore is a millionaire and Lifeway (SBC publishing arm) is a seedy organization for years and she was their best seller (at least at the very top) Like Jen she doesn’t have a lot of self awareness about her participation and complacency in the things they were part of and made lots of bank and notoriety off of for decades. Jen doesn’t ask questions about herself and acts brand new and she’s almost 50. If your deconstruction includes skipping grief and self reflection, whether it’s the break down of your marriage or breaking down your faith - it’s not a real process. Jen ultimately views everything as how do I get supply from this and skip the inner steps and work to genuinely be the person and get to the place I want to be seen as. Even if there’s a little bit of honest and genuine vulnerability here and there - everything’s always ultimately about the grift.
