Pope Francis has spoken out against the cruelty in Gaza twice in as many days, as I’m sure you’ve all seen. Yesterday, he said, “Yesterday, children were bombed. This is not war. This is cruelty. I want to say this because it touches my heart.” Today, he said, “And with pain I think of Gaza, of so much cruelty, of the children being machine-gunned, of the bombings of schools and hospitals. What cruelty.” I hope the world is listening to this voice of kindness and humanity.
There has been plenty of cruelty to go around, it's inappropriate and biased to single out the Gazans as if they suffered exclusively. They just suffered quantitatively more thereafter, which is not necessarily unjust or inappropriate, given that this was precipitated by Gazans on Oct. 7.
This is an example of the "sociopathy of denial" that we so often see here. It is generally characterized by: lack of empathy, deflection of blame, rationalization, distortion, manipulation, and gaslighting. Israel has been committing atrocities against Palestinians for decades, and this has been going on since long before October 7.
No this is war. A war that Hamas started. If you don't want none, don't start none. FAFO
FAFO works both ways. Israel's genocide and cruelty in Gaza is FingA, and it will soon find itself FingO. That's the way of the world. Violence breeds violence. The problem started long before Hamas was founded. From the start, Israel has been a racist, apartheid state that was built on the most brutal and genocidal terrorism. You can't massacre 15,000 people and displace over 700,000, as happened during the Nakba, and not expect pushback. You can't shoot demonstrators with the intent of "breaking bones," lock up political prisoners without trial, assassinate journalists who draw attention to your violations of international law, brutalize Palestinians in the West Bank (including stealing their homes), slaughter tens of thousands of innocent people, and cause some multiple of that to die of starvation, thirst, disease, or exposure without some sort of retaliation. Israel is only fanning the fuels of resistance.
