This is like saying all cops are bad because of the actions of a few, or all black kids are bad because the actions of a few.  Or that gun laws don't stop mass killings so why have gun laws. It's like saying over 90% of the major school shooting where SROs were present they did not have the positive impact that their advocates suggested which makes me think we're going about this wrong. Maybe instead of putting more guns in school we should consider real gun reform.[/quote]

Nope. Some of us are just concerned parents with kids in the school system. I actually am very anti-gun, but I live in reality and I know that there are hundreds of millions of guns in this country. I know they are in our schools. I can say “I want gun reform” until I’m out of breath. That won’t take away the guns (and ghost guns) in this region. It won’t take away the people with ill intent who plan to use them. Until someone can make this a gun-free utopia, I want my children as safe from harm as can be. That includes having SROs in schools.

MCPS  has CEOs. They are not dedicated to the  HS, which SROs were. They are also not allowed to walk the halls, SROs were.[/quote]

CEO’s are SRO’s they are sworn officers, the exact ones that were SRO’s with 40 hours more training.

They are assigned HS’s as a team so you now have 3-4 so there is backup for sick days, more coverage.

They are allowed to walk the hallways. They are not allowed to get involved in disciplinary issues. [/quote]

The Montgomery County Department of Police School Resource Officer Program consists of 23 sworn officers as well as one officer from the Rockville City Police Department, one officer from the Gaithersburg Police Department, and one deputy sheriff from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. These 26 sworn officers represent the cadre of School Resource Officers for Montgomery County, Maryland.
The Montgomery County Public School system has 25 High Schools and 1 Alternative Learning School. The School Resource Officers are assigned one to each of these schools. Additionally, when available, the School Resource Officers provide coverage to 40 Middle Schools and 135 Elementary Schools.

Now:

CEOs will:
- Check-in daily at every high school
- Be assigned to a cluster of schools, not a particular location

CEOs will not: 
- Be permanently stationed inside any school. 
- Randomly walk through school hallways.

Still no different than SROs

They are at HS’s daily
They also cover elementary and middle schools.
They are also permanently assigned inside high schools with a place to sit.
They will not randomly walk through schools with no purpose, but they will build relationships with student and participate in school-based events such as career days, assemblies, study circles, and other staff/student events.

Gang awareness and outreach to at risk students

The appropriate law enforcement agency (SVU not SROs) will take the lead on deaths, rapes, etc. the cops trained to handle these will take the lead not the SRO who are not trained to investigate these matters.

Checking in at a high school once daily is NOT the same as being present during the day. Surely you understand that. As for having an office, so what? I want presence. I want them in the hallways and not hidden in some closet. I want them assigned directly to schools and not to clusters. I want them to be the same trusted school community members they once were, before a small but vocal group decided to get them removed.

They are present everyday all day. They must connect with the front office daily which is not what they did in the past.[/quote]
