The failures of SROs present at both Parkland and Uvalde illustrate how SROs aren't going to make a school safe which seems to be the whole argument for them.

I know they are in our schools. I can say “I want gun reform” until I’m out of breath. That won’t take away the guns (and ghost guns) in this region. It won’t take away the people with ill intent who plan to use them. Until someone can make this a gun-free utopia, I want my children as safe from harm as can be. That includes having SROs in schools.

They are allowed to walk the hallways. They are not allowed to get involved in disciplinary issues.

I want them in the hallways and not hidden in some closet. I want them assigned directly to schools and not to clusters. I want them to be the same trusted school community members they once were, before a small but vocal group decided to get them removed.

DP. I saw the Parkland and Uvalde response and thought the same thing. It’s the only thing this poster seems to be able to fall back on as an argument.

The failures of SROs present at both Parkland and Uvalde illustrate how SROs aren't going to make a school safe which seems to be the whole argument for them.

What happened in FL has nothing to do with what happens in MCPS. FL doesn't have the same kind of oversight on the police that MoCo does.

No not really. It's like saying over 90% of the major school shooting where SROs were present they did not have the positive impact that their advocates suggested which makes me think we're going about this wrong. Maybe instead of putting more guns in school we should consider real gun reform.

The NRA lobby loves SROs. That's actually their answer to school shootings. I can't help but wonder if this never ending stream of pro-SRO posts are from their lobbyists.

Nope. Some of us are just concerned parents with kids in the school system. I actually am very anti-gun, but I live in reality and I know that there are hundreds of millions of guns in this country. I know they are in our schools. I can say “I want gun reform” until I’m out of breath. That won’t take away the guns (and ghost guns) in this region. It won’t take away the people with ill intent who plan to use them. Until someone can make this a gun-free utopia, I want my children as safe from harm as can be. That includes having SROs in schools.

+1 I'm all for stricter gun laws, evening banning all guns, but until this is a reality, I'm for SROs.

MCPS has CEOs. They are not dedicated to the HS, which SROs were. They are also not allowed to walk the halls, SROs were.
