That's because there WAS AN ARMED ROBBERY. Person points gun + demands money = armed robbery. Why aren't people getting that?!

Except in his interview he completely fabricated the entire story! He didn't mention being shitfaced at a gas station, pissing on a wall and someone demanding money afterwards, he said they were pulled over, ordered to the ground and he was the only one who refused.
Anyone with half a brain knows that you don't 'refuse' robbers armed with guns in a foreign country.
