They had no business being there as long as they were simply to use the restroom. They made no purchases while there.
This is a security guard who belonged on the premises asking for payment for damages .. Now how much this payment should have been is up for discussion and borders on extortion. But it ain't armed robbery. Stores stop shoplifters on a regular basis and demand that they wait for cops to arrive, do not leave the premises with stolen merchandise, etc... Again, even if it's an armed guard stopping you at Kohls and demanding you pay for what you were stealing, it is not armed robbery.

DP. There really aren't any facts to the contrary, just missing facts. There are three minutes missing in the video the Brazilian officials put out. In it, you see the men sitting in the car with several uniformed people standing around looking at them. Then [three mintues later] you see them getting out of the car with their wallets out, one of them puts his hands up, and they're walking off camera.
If what happened in those three minutes were really the way things should be handled in a case of vandalism, why wouldn't Brazilian officials want us to see it?

I hope USOC finds some way to show that this is unacceptable-- even if it's meaningless like kicking him off the team.
Attention seeker. Plain and simple. The other 3 didn't say much at all publicly -- maybe bc they were abiding by what the USOC/State Dept told them to do. 2 said nothing, and I think Gunnar Bentz tweeted out that he was safe.
Eventually Feigen agreed that there was an armed robbery. This was Wednesday or Thursday, after everything was blowing up.
That's because there WAS AN ARMED ROBBERY. Person points gun + demands money = armed robbery. Why aren't people getting that?!
Lochte isn't very smart, we all know that. He should not have done that iPhone interview with Billy Bush, but he was shaken up, he was caught off guard, he wasn't with his PR people...Not sure he knew any better so he did the interview.
It wasn't an armed robbery. The security guard was trying to control the situation with 4 massive men who were at the gas station to use the bathroom NOT to buy gas. They weren't even customers. Feign and Bentz are both 6 feet 5 inches, Conger is 6 feet 4 inches and Lochte is 6 feet 2 inches. And all of them have huge muscles. They were wild and drunk. They gas station owner could have called the police and they all could have gotten arrested for disorderly conduct and vandalism. Instead they said pay us for the damage. They didn't take their wallets, jewelry, or phone. Imagine if 4 drunk massive brazilians were destroying a bathroom gas station in the US and the security guard pulled out a gun. No one would blink an eye.

Being forced to pay for things you broke is not robbery. It's not how the US would've handled things but it's not like they were innocent, well behaved Angels visiting this gas station and feeding the poor and homeless.

If you're overwhelmed and you go meet with the State Dept and the USOC and they say -- don't talk to anyone about it, let it blow over. In what universe does that translate to -- leave meeting; walk across the street; find Billy Bush; and give an interview?? Whether your PR guys are with your or not, you should be thinking -- State Dept/USOC told me not to talk, so I guess I'll leave here, go back to the village, and grab myself a pizza for lunch.
This was after his mom blabbed to the press. He was approached by the media, it's not like he ran over to them to break the story. I'm not saying mistakes weren't made, but I believe those guys were wronged. Were the details matched up perfectly? No. Did they leave out their wrong doing? Yes. But that still doesn't excuse the fact that they were held at gunpoint and demanded to give up their cash.

The unaired 3min of that tape are more likely to destroy that argument than support it. If the unaired 3 min showed anything positive in The swimmers' favor, their lawyers would have leaked it by now.
