All the teams get to go to the showcases
Going and playtime are not always the same thing, though. Imagine an ECNL team with 30 players.... Only 11 can be on the field at a time. (And unless I'm wrong, for any given game, even a showcase one, you can only roster 18.) That leaves a lot of kids traveling somewhere costly to play not that much.
If you are not one of the 18 then you do not travel.
Not true. I have seen a team with 22 on the roster all travel for a showcase. Instead of playing 3 games, a number of those traveling will get only 2.
Yeah. It happens. I don't recommend joining a club that rosters more than 18. One thing I really like that MU is doing is keeping the FT roster small and focused and giving opportunities to PT players if they do need numbers. It prevents the situation you are talking about.
That does sound good. Do the PT players go to showcases? Are there situations when they play instead of or more than the FT players?
Sure, sometimes they go for a variety of reasons. They could have injuries. If in the case of U19s, a lot of FT players are already committed, they may opt out and that leaves spots for PT players. In terms of playing time, unless a FT player is injured or otherwise, that shouldn't be the case. If a PT player gets more than a FT player, I would question that with the coach. They don't pay the same fees, they don't have the same requirements, and they have other teams they already see time on. I have seen coaches in general think that can recruit a "desirable" PT player that way, but I've never seen that work. If seeing time as a PT player and practicing with the program as a PT player doesn't show them the value, they are just using the club and the coach is foolish enough to allow himself to be used. Also, once a player hits 13 games, they are automatically converted to FT status. PT players need to know that and commit to that.
