More K street narratives falling apart on a weekly basis. Time to make peace, before European governments fall.
More Mokhovaya street narratives falling apart on a weekly basis. Time to cut off resupply routes into Crimea, before the winter sets in. "There is evidence of “second-round effects,” where inflation today leads to more tomorrow." “Contrary to popular belief,” as Ms. Nabiullina noted in a speech on September 15, the currency composition of export payments does not have a “notable impact” on exchange rates. The only thing that changes is the timing of the transition." https://ustoday.news/the-costs-of-the-russian-war-will-soon-become-clear/ "Russia's central bank raised its key interest rate by 100 basis points to 13% on Sept. 15, jacking up the cost of borrowing at its third meeting in succession in response to a weaker rouble and other persistent inflationary pressures. At an emergency meeting in August, the regulator sharply raised the rate by 350 basis points to 12%. The central bank has adjusted its year-end forecast for inflation to 6.0-7.0% from 5.0-6.5%. Annual inflation was running at 5.33% as of Sept. 11, above the 4% target." https://www.reuters.com/markets/rates-bonds/russias-cenbank-chief-key-interest-rate-could-be-raised-or-kept-hold-this-year-2023-09-29/#:~:text=The%20central%20bank%20has%20adjusted,%2C%20above%20the%204%25%20target. Read between the lines. I highlighted some really, really important verbiage. What do the experts think Ms. Nabiullina will do about it? "expects the bank to hike to 14% at its next meeting on Oct. 27 and for double-digit rates to stay until 2025." https://www.reuters.com/article/russia-economy-poll/poll-stubborn-inflation-pressure-to-keep-russian-rates-high-limit-long-term-growth-idUSL8N3B46KJ Yikes. That won't play well over winter! That would be the third in how many months!!! Maybe she has another trick up her sleeve? "future implementation of the digital ruble was directed to offer payment options to users." "Our fundamental position is that people should be able to choose how to make payments. We are presenting choices." "We are still developing cash, and we are even creating a new series of banknotes with a fresh design." "the bank has established limits for the amount of digital rubles that users might store in these accounts. Furthermore, the funds stored in digital ruble accounts will not collect any interest" "Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Financial Markets, estimated that the digital ruble would be used to make cross-border payments by 2025." https://news.bitcoin.com/bank-of-russia-governor-elvira-nabiullina-cash-is-not-going-away/ The digital ruble is likely being done to reduce the need for paper currency and bypass sanctions (easier crypto-to-crypto exchange without using foreign inter-bank transfers). The new banknotes are typically expensive to produce but should reduce counterfeit and acts as a psychological boost (to perceive the Ruble as valuable). She says all this will be done in 2025, but I have a question for you. How safe and well-designed do you think the new currency system will be if it goes up in just two years (or less)? I think this is the 'Hail Mary' approach towards saving the Russian economy? But I personally believe that within those two years, Russia will disintegrate anyway.. so let's see if Ms. Nabiullina is right! In the meantime.. "Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree setting out the routine seasonal conscription campaign, calling up 130,000 citizens for military service." https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2023/9/29/russia-ukraine-war-live-ex-prigozhin-aide-to-oversee-volunteer-fighters If my count is correct, this brings them to 2.5M troops? (I need to go back and count again.. what Putin signs versus how many are actually called up seem to be very different numbers?) If my earlier estimations were correct, about a 3M troop call-up will start shutting down major sections of the Russian economy.
