The digital ruble is likely being done to reduce the need for paper currency and bypass sanctions (easier crypto-to-crypto exchange without using foreign inter-bank transfers). The new banknotes are typically expensive to produce but should reduce counterfeit and acts as a psychological boost (to perceive the Ruble as valuable). She says all this will be done in 2025, but I have a question for you. How safe and well-designed do you think the new currency system will be if it goes up in just two years (or less)? I think this is the 'Hail Mary' approach towards saving the Russian economy? But I personally believe that within those two years, Russia will disintegrate anyway.. so let's see if Ms. Nabiullina is right!
