One time I was walking down Michigan Ave in Chicago with my family and an obviously mentally ill homeless person screamed at nobody in particular, “White people are uglier than dog$h!t!” It was equal parts sad and funny. After we passed, I explained to my kids that the person was suffering from severe mental health issues and was homeless, etc. With the proper context, anyone can understand. I think it’s baffling to be upset with a person with TS for anything that comes out of their mouth once you understand how their condition works.
And it’s baffling to not understand that when your behavior negatively impacts other people, the onus is on you to apologize and to do what you can to make amends. Unlike the person in your example, Mr Davidson is clearly capable of making an apology, and of understanding the weight of his comments. So, in this case, the context makes his failure to apologize seem even worse.
