Someone really needs to do a forensic audit of this charity brokership. The charities Form 990’s reported admin costs would be very interesting to see.
Since inception (2015), Legacy Collective's administrative & marketing costs have been 30% of funds collected. In 2021, Admin + Marketing were 28% of funds collected. That means, for every $250 donation made, ~ $175 goes to the charity (grant) and $75 to admin & marketing. It's all in the annual report. Almost any charity has admin & marketing costs, but I personally avoid charities with admin fees that are bloated like this. There's plenty of charities that keep these expenses under 10%.
I do have to point out though that keeping it below 10% for a nonprofit is hard, esp if you employ fundraisers. The standard is more like 20%. I don’t think legacy collective employs fundraisers and since it’s a giving circle I would expect their admin/fundraising to be much lower, but 10% is almost impossible for a lot of nonprofits who are actually doing work and employing people to help raise funds to do the work.
