Genuine question because I'm not sure. What is the thought in evangelical circles in 2023 about sex outside of marriage? Still bad? Acceptable if you're an adult? Still bad but we turn a blind eye towards it?
There is very little in the 2023 church that is different than the broader culture when it comes to sexual expression. Sex before marriage is okay while not it's exactly talked about in polite church circles be it heterosexual or homosexual or all of the above. In general, marriage is still encouraged in general but no one bats an eye regarding cohabitating or no-fault divorce. Those who are still old school regarding sex in the church are definitely the weirdo minority now days.
I think this largely depends on the type of church you attend. Some “traditional” churches still do exist, and teach that sex outside of marriage is a sin. It’s interesting though, that Jen decided to affirm same sex relationships with a long diatribe about studying the Bible, praying, and eventually the specific verses that influenced her stance. But today, she’s just cool with casual sex. No announcement, no explanation. No, “I searched the scriptures and prayed and ultimately decided that Jesus is cool with me having sex with my boyfriend.”
This is an interesting perspective and one that I haven't thought about.
