Why?  How do you know that it was obvious to the parents that their son was such a danger?  Things like this happen all the time that come as a shock to people who know the killer?  Yes, they knew he was unstable and probably racist,  but that does not necessarily mean he is suicidal or planning to kill anyone. [/quote]

But we really don't know how his mental illness presented itself prior to this.  Think about the Columbine, Sandy Hook, and the Vegas Shooting.  Most people knew the shooters were a bit off or unstable but no one thought they were dangerous before they committed their crimes. [/quote]

Columbine was a first and not something that anyone would ever have anticipated happening at the time.  The parents knew and admitted that their boys had been in trouble but they hoped that things would improve as graduation neared.  With Sandy Hook, the mother was keenly aware that her son was a very sick person - she was overwhelmed by the severity of his needs and the lack of support care available to him after HS and did not know where else to turn for help.  It was all on her and it was too much.  I think that a part of her wanted him to kill both her and himself - just to end their suffering.

The Vegas shooter was a grown man who didn't even live in the same state as his elderly mother and other family members.  Not sure what they could have seen or done.

The boy in this situation was a kid with mental health issues who was getting help and who did have a two parent household who appeared to be making an effort to ready him for the future.  I am sure that they are destroyed over this  But I obviously don't know them.[/quote]
