Bad news - they revamped the curriculum for this course just this last March. It now seems really labor intensive - there are videos to watch and podcasts to listen to before you even get to the exit tickets. This sucks.
Either you’re a kid or a parent. And it should be more effort than checking boxes. Had to do some work to earn your pass. That said, I bet you can’t skip forward in the podcasts or videos right, they are set up so you can’t speed run them or just click on the end and auto open the exit tickets and exams. How’d I do pretty good eh? And it’s easy to speed run these things anyway, set to play on separate monitor with video podcast muted and watch YouTube on another screen. Answer the questions when unlocked. Work smarter not harder But if you aren’t a parent or student, do you know which teachers revamped it, I’m curious who did
I saw on the FCPS website - it just said it was revamped this last March with “updated curriculum.”
The Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance course was updated on March 21, 2025. The new course features include: updated curriculum interactive modules homework assignments exit slip quizzes modules tests final assessment I mean that’s what it said before March 21. Revamp would be good but it still has to be completable for the TJ kids in 24 hours or less or they won’t all sign up for it! Have you actually seen these time locked and forced watch and listen podcasts and videos? If not I’d take that with a grain of salt besides how do we get around digital professional development at work? We turn it on play it in the background then go answer the questions and move on. No one actually seriously pays attention to those and everyone knows how to work around their inconvenience. And kids will figure out if they are time and force watch locked…play in background and do tickets when done. Sure takes extra time but not that much time Frankly it’s a thing I would’ve like 5-7 years ago but program coordinator was like it’s not worth the blowback from the sped/esol parents about how it’s “not fair.” And the regular parents being like it’s self directed my baby should be able to work and finish whenever they want!
