I did some research and it appears that technically, the WISE test is only required for those getting the standard diploma. I have no idea why my child’s counselor said it was required when my child is getting the advanced diploma.
Because your child’s counselor is new or doesn’t understand the graduation requirement because they are in fact a moron. What you read is correct though. And I applaud you for looking that up and understanding what it says. You’d be shocked how many people you can send the exact verbiage too and they say so my kid has to take the wise exam then? Yes your kid who has taken all honors since 9th grade has to take it (ugh). My suggestion is if your kids righteous smart the wise exam hasnt changed in 15 years so why not take the exam with its 66% passing score where its just a I took it and passed check box and then have it in the back pocket. The exam isn’t rocket science. I had a kid who barely did any work or come to class finish in 45 minutes and get an 86%, it’s depressing how easy the exam isn’t rocket Here are the kids who fail wise 1. Esol (usually pass by 4th/5th attempt) 2. Really dumb kids who don’t ever come to class (miraculously pass 2nd try) 3. Self contained sped (and eventually they find a way or get a waiver) Nearly everyone else passes first try, and those that don’t pass second
The short answer is because my child is a very slow worker (has a 504 and requires extra time on exams.) Most likely he wouldn’t finish in the advisory period and it would take away time from other more important classes. It just adds one more thing to do. My child is also the type that would want to study for the test and over prepare. He wouldn’t want to take it cold right after a vacation. It just seems like a waste of time if it’s not required?
