This thread got pretty heated…Miami grad here. My son just graduated from Miami and my daughter is going to be Junior at Pepperdine after spending the year abroad in Italy. While these two universities have some crossover, they are completely opposite when it comes to partying. My son has partied a lot at Miami. We were discussing this last night. He said it was pretty common to go out in the city (outside of Coral Gables). That is what everyone does. It is a much more cosmopolitan environment than Malibu. Sure, Malibu is close to LA, but it is still far enough removed that it is a completely different environment. My daughter had a lot of fun in her freshman year at Pepperdine. She said she went to LA to party 4 or 5 times during the year. Most of the parties were off campus in Malibu somewhere. A much more ‘chill” environment as she put it. Miami was go go go. Parties Wed-Sat and a very different campus environment. If your kid is applying to both schools, make sure they know the environment they are getting into. I 100% agree with the other poster that Pepperdine is a safer environment for a girl. This coming from a Miami grad with a son who just graduated from Miami.
