DS applied to all 3. Tulane was off the waitlist. He is going to Pepperdine.

Go to Miami if you have money. Great school! I mean all three are great but I love the U!

I guess if you eliminate the Jewish mid-Atlantic/northeast families, them Tulane and Miami share a lot of the same applicants.

Quite frankly I didnt realize there a little crossover between these 3 when including a Christian school like Pepperdine. But this came up in a conversation with parents of the seniors in my kid’s school this last week. There were 3 kids and a couple of others they knew about that applied to all 3. Maybe because we are in Texas and halfway between both coasts, but the crossover is correct with a certain part of the applicant pool.

I wonder how it will change this coming Fall with Miami going test required.

This thread got pretty heated…Miami grad here. My son just graduated from Miami and my daughter is going to be Junior at Pepperdine after spending the year abroad in Italy.

While these two universities have some crossover, they are completely opposite when it comes to partying. My son has partied a lot at Miami. We were discussing this last night. He said it was pretty common to go out in the city (outside of Coral Gables). That is what everyone does. It is a much more cosmopolitan environment than Malibu.

Sure, Malibu is close to LA, but it is still far enough removed that it is a completely different environment. My daughter had a lot of fun in her freshman year at Pepperdine. She said she went to LA to party 4 or 5 times during the year. Most of the parties were off campus in Malibu somewhere. A much more ‘chill” environment as she put it. Miami was go go go. Parties Wed-Sat and a very different campus environment.

If your kid is applying to both schools, make sure they know the environment they are getting into. I 100% agree with the other poster that Pepperdine is a safer environment for a girl. This coming from a Miami grad with a son who just graduated from Miami.

of course I've never been there, and it's 8 miles from campus, but otherwise I only know what fox tells me about blue cities and it's bad, oh so bad

Funny….those pretending the U being in Coral Gables insulates your kids from being in Miami…..please grow up.

My son is going to be a sr at Miami. Every weekend they are going somewhere (NOT in Coral Gables) in the city to party. Please …..It is a party town. The students know it and take full advantage of it.

She got in all 3. She was set on Miami, but scholarship was much better at Pepperdine. Miami then reach out in late May offering more merit. By that time, she already committed and made up her mind. She is going to Pepperdine.
