I sent my proposed map in. I relieved W-L crowding mostly by moving planning units to Yorktown. The only planning units I moved to Wakefield had fewer than 10 economically disadvantaged students in them. I managed to get into the green for all 3 schools for all years, except the first year at Wakefield remained yellow. I also tried to keep the current walk zones intact, but I ignored the new 1.5 mile circles. While I 100% agree that high school students should be able to navigate 1.5 miles without a school bus, the reality is that if 1.5 miles is the standard in a county as small as Arlington, it becomes almost impossible to move *any* students. I reluctantly checked that "diversity" was one of my most important goals. Reluctantly, because I don't want "diversity" to be read as "more kids of color at Yorktown." Frankly, I think diversifying Yorktown needs to take a backseat to the much more important goal of *not* concentrating low-income students in one high school. I explained this in the comment box, but who knows whether these will comments will actually be read by anyone. I also checked the "proximity" box as important but noted in the comment my concern about moving to a 1.5-mile standard. I also asked in the comment box why some of the planning units could be moved only to Yorktown and others only to Wakefield, since it might be easier to balance low-income students if there was more flexibility. And finally, I commented that we need a fourth comprehensive high school on the VH parcel. I wrote it in all caps--think that makes a difference? If it matters, I live in a W-L planning unit that is not being considered for reassignment.
