My Blair student as accepted to the Honors College, but I'm confused - now DC needs to select an honors community? Are those competitive applications too? On the acceptance letter it mentions the Robert H Smith School of Business is the advising college. Does that mean that DC would be in the Interdisciplinary Business Honors college? Not a former Terp, so this is all very confusing.
Mine was accepted to School of Music and invited to Honors college. I think the honors community is different. You can apply to any community. It doesn't have to relate to your major. I am wondering if anyone has feedback on Humanities honors and university honors.
My DD has really enjoyed Honors Humanities. The dorm, Anne Arundel, is one of the best on campus. People say that the Prince Frederick dorm is like a hotel, but Anne Arundel is like a B-and-B. Anyway, it has classic Georgian architecture but is thoroughly renovated on the inside. There is a grand piano for student use. The current director is enthusiastic and is one of the few professors who showed up consistently on campus during the 2020-21 school year when campus life was dead due to COVID. Students in HoHum are a surprising mix -there are humanities and social science students, but engineering students as well. University Honors is very large (roughly 50% of the Honors College). Everyone in Univ. Honors should be in the brand new dorms by Fall 2022. They have tiny windows, but otherwise students seem to like them. The most competitive programs to get into seem to be ACES, ILS, and DCC. I have heard that if you don't get into your first choice, you are likely to be placed in University Honors. Choose carefully!
