Agree that she was not prepared and did not handle things well as the process evolved.  She should have made a separate motion for Jus. Thurg. Marshall rather than changing Schultz's motion.  And really, she shouldn't have made the motion for Jus. Thurg. Marshall at all b/c she seemed to be doing it only to appease people who were arguing for an actual person's name rather than a concept name.  Dumb move.  Have your own positions and follow through with them.

IMO, the process was flawed from the get-go.  They started with FAR, FAR too many names -- including ones they should have known could NOT be used (i.e. Justice Thurgood Marshall).  The Board should have provided fewer options, but GOOD options from the start.  Then taken the vote -- no write ins.  Just "pick from these 6-8 names that we have come up with".

I still don't know why no one pushed for Peace Valley other than a strong desire to keep pursuing identity politics with school names.  [/quote]
