American military helmets and body armor could never protect against the 7.62mm round. That is what an AK-47 shoots and 99% of our enemies use in combat in Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam. Very, very few elements of the military have armor that protect against 7.62mm as it is super expensive and was really, really heavy so you could only function for an hour or two on a mission before you simply collapse from the weight and heat. US law enforcement get the hand-me-downs from the US military or buy their own new equipment built to military spec. There are tons of rounds out there that no armor can stop. A typical deer rifle fires a .308 and short of cinder block it is going through everything.[/quote]
