I still think it's Madison in the bed. I loved the mother/daughter bonding. It made me so sad knowing that they were finally at a good place and yet Rebecca's time is limited. I think Kate is being a little harsh with Toby. He's entitled to his feelings too, and I imagine the reality of having a special needs baby is something that everyone handles differently. It's awesome to see Kate find her strength but Toby isn't there yet. Given his history of depression, it's not surprising either. She overreacted when he said he "wanted" to be that kind of husband and father, which seemed like an honest answer to me. And when he was excited about Jack seeing the lights and did a bunch of research, she was all over him about being realistic. He was pleading with her to let him have a little bit of hope for one night, and that wasn't ok with her. It just seems like she's trying to control everything as it relates to him.
Wow. I had the opposite reaction to Tobys research. He is trying to “fix” Jack instead of except that he is blind. It was pure selfish motivation on his part. I think that is why Kate is upset. Sure, Toby gets to feel a loss, but he needs to step up and learn how to beat parent a blind child. Toby sees a broken child, Kate sees a wonderful child. But I do wonder if Kate is less tolerant of Toby’s reaction because of the neighbor.
